Ten Tips

What to arrange for your study registration and first days at the University

1. In-person attendance at study registration

  • a study registration is compulsory for each student every year
  • the date of registration and other information from the Study Department you will receive by an e-mail address
  • at your study registration you will need to bring your identity card or passport
  • at your study registration you will receive a personal identity number (a student number) which is necessary for the issue of your ISIC card and for logging in to the student agenda (IS STAG)

2. Where can I get my ISIC card?

  • first you need to have the ISIC card properly paid for
  • the card is issued in the Centre of Information Technology (building no. 30, located immediately next to the main entrance on the right)
  • make sure you take your personal number along
  • they will take a picture of you and make your ISIC card

3. Don't forget to carry your ISIC card with you!

  • time limited validity for 16 months (from 1 September of the current year to 31 December of the following year)
  • in the 2nd year of study, the validity will be extended electronically at your study officer in the study department + a validation sticker in worth of CZK 210 will be stuck on the card (it must be paid in advance by bank transfer)
  • the validity of the ISIC card is proven by the validation sticker that needs to be renewed periodically
  • you need your ISIC card for:
    • within the University:
      • proof of your identity during credits and exams
      • to the services of the University Library (the card must be activated in the library)
      • for entering rooms (e.g computer classrooms), which are protected by an authorized access system and the student has access there
    • outside the University:

4. Change of your password for your student e-mail address and access for IS STAG

  • every new student has their own personal student e-mail address (H2xxxx@vfu.cz) automatically created
  • after your first login, the system will ask you to change your temporarily password. You can change your password via this website, where the student enter with his/her student number (H2xxxx) and temporary password (foreigners are assigned a so-called pseudo-birth number, which they receive upon study registration); with the student number and the newly changed password, it is possible to log in to the school e-mail via Office 365 or IS STAG
  • keep an eye on IS STAG, where the introductory section always contains news that usually relate to your study
  • you should regularly read new messages/documents that are in the Office 365 mailbox (if you use a different e-mail address than the school e-mail, we recommend setting up e-mail forwarding)
  • every student has the opportunity to use the Microsoft 365 package, it is necessary to log in to the Microsoft 365 tools with your access data (H2xxxx@vfu.cz and password) - use is possible on up to 5 device

5. Get to know IS STAG

  • in the 1st year, all compulsory and optional subjects are automatically registered to students in IS STAG (in the following years you are rensponsible for monitoring it yourself = especially the number of credits)
  • for each academic year you have to collect 60 credits, i.e. for a bachelor's degree 180 credits in total, for a master's degree 360 credits in total and for a follow-up master's degree 120 credits in total
  • in IS STAG you will also find: timetables (in the upper year, you will write them down yourself), exam dates and your registered exams (including results), an overview of theses, the possibility to apply for a social or accommodation scholarship, your personal data, etc.

6. Check your timetable

7. Explore the University campus, individual departments, seminar rooms and lecture halls

8. Secure dormitories or other accommodation

9. Where to go for meal

  • The Time canteen restaurant - they cook delicious lunches, a different lunch menu every day, you can choose from three dishes
  • Snack bar „Krmítko“ (on the ground floor of the building SIC, no. 24)
  • it is possible to go to another university's cafeteria

10. Join the University Library, where you can borrow mandatory and recommended literature for study and research

  • the University Library is located on the 4th floor in the building of Study and Information Centre (building no. 24)
  • to use the university library, you need a valid ISIC card (must be activated in the library) and a completed application form, which can be requested at the VETUNI central library lending desk
